Product details
A combined Type 1 and Type 2 arrester does two jobs in one set of modules: it takes the partial lightning current that a direct strike puts into an installation, and it limits the ordinary switching and induced surges that follow. This four-module DEHN unit does both for single-phase TN supplies.
Key features
- Combined Type 1 and Type 2 duty in a single four-module arrester
- Configured for single-phase TN systems with line and neutral protection
- Fitted at the origin of the installation, upstream of the distribution boards
- Modular construction allows individual protection modules to be replaced
- Removes the need for separate Type 1 and Type 2 devices in a small board
Typical applications
Specify it at intake positions where partial lightning current is a credible risk: buildings with an external lightning protection system, properties fed by overhead lines, exposed rural and coastal sites, agricultural buildings, and single-phase industrial or telemetry supplies. A Type 2 device further downstream then handles the distribution boards themselves.
Compliance
Combined Type 1 and Type 2 devices are classified under the BS EN 61643-11 series and are installed at the origin of the installation. BS 7671 requires the risk from transient overvoltages to be assessed, with Type 1 protection used where partial lightning current may enter the installation and coordinated Type 2 protection downstream.
