Who we are
ENICO Ltd, trading as Switchgear Direct, decides how the personal information described here is used (the "controller"). ENICO Ltd is registered in England and Wales, company number 14523114, registered office 128 City Road, London EC1V 2NX. For any question about your information, email sales@switchgeardirect.co.uk.
We sell to trade and business customers, but the people we deal with - sole traders, and staff of the businesses we supply - have the same rights over their personal information.
What we collect
- Your account: name, email address, phone number, company name, saved addresses and your password. The password is stored only in a scrambled form that cannot be read back.
- Your orders: what you order, delivery and billing names and addresses, email address, phone number, your company or trading name, your confirmation that you are buying for your business, payment status and order history. Card payments are handled by Stripe: we never see or store your full card number.
- Your enquiries: what you send through the contact, quote and trade account forms, or by email: your name, email address, phone number, company and message.
- Website logs: our servers record the IP address, browser type, page requested and time of each request, to keep the website secure and to find faults. Search terms typed into the search box are recorded without anything that identifies you, to improve the search.
- Website usage statistics: Google Analytics records which pages are viewed, how visitors arrive and move through the site, the type of device and browser and the country or region of the visit, against a random number kept in a cookie. We cannot identify you from it and do not connect it to your account or orders. You can turn it off on our cookie policy page.
- Cookies: small files that keep your cart and login working, and the analytics cookie above - see our cookie policy.

We do not send marketing emails, and we never sell or rent personal information.
Who we share it with
- Our suppliers and their carriers, such as Europa Components and Rittal. Orders are sent to you directly from their stock, so we give them the delivery name, address, phone number and order details they need to deliver it.
- Stripe, which processes card payments and screens them for fraud.
- Zoho, whose services send our emails (ZeptoMail), hold our sales@ mailbox (Zoho Mail) and keep our accounts (Zoho Books). We use Zoho's EU data centre.
- DigitalOcean, which hosts this website on servers in London.
- Google, whose Google Analytics service processes the website usage statistics for us. We have turned off the settings that would let Google use them for its own products or for advertising.
- Our accountants and professional advisers, HM Revenue & Customs and other authorities when the law requires it, and a buyer of our business if it is ever sold.
Stripe, Zoho, Google and DigitalOcean act on our instructions and must keep the information secure.
Information sent outside the UK
Some providers, including Stripe, Google and DigitalOcean, are based in the United States and may handle information there. Whenever personal information leaves the UK, we rely on the UK's adequacy regulations (for example for the EU, where Zoho's data centre is) or on the safeguards the provider offers, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or certification under the UK extension of the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
How long we keep it
- Orders, invoices and payment records: six years after the end of the financial year they belong to, as UK tax law requires.
- Your account: until you ask us to close it. Records of your orders are then kept as above.
- Enquiries that do not lead to an order: two years after we last heard from you.
- Website logs: 30 days.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your personal information, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to how we use it, and for a copy of what you gave us in a format you can take elsewhere. Some rights have limits - for example, we must keep order records for tax purposes. Email sales@switchgeardirect.co.uk and we will reply within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we use your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, 0303 123 1113).
Keeping it secure
The website uses encrypted connections (HTTPS). Card details go straight to Stripe, which is certified to the payment card industry's security standard (PCI DSS). Access to our systems is limited to the people who need it, and passwords are never stored in readable form.
Changes to this policy
We will post any changes on this page and update the date at the top.
