Retrofitting surge protection to an existing three-phase board usually runs into the same problem: there are not four spare ways. The DG TT 5 275 puts three-phase TT and TN protection into two modules, trading maximum discharge capacity for a footprint that actually fits.

Typical applications
Best suited to small commercial and light industrial three-phase boards, retrofit work in occupied buildings, landlord and riser panels, shop and office fit-outs, and packaged plant such as air handling units or lift controllers where the control panel has limited spare ways. Where the board is at the origin of a building with a lightning protection system, a Type 1 device is still required upstream.
Compliance
Tested as a Type 2 device to EN 61643-11, with a UL 94 V-0 thermoplastic enclosure and IP20 protection for mounting inside an enclosure. BS 7671 requires transient overvoltage risk to be assessed and protection provided where the consequences justify it - note the lower L-N discharge ratings when assessing suitability against a full-size Type 2 device.
