The Europa 16 A 230 V 2P+E horizontal socket is a surface-mounting single-phase industrial outlet for workshops, plant rooms and machine shops. It is the robust, IP44-rated alternative to a domestic-pattern socket wherever portable equipment is plugged and unplugged every day.

Typical applications
Typical duties are single-phase workshop machinery, extraction fans, bench equipment, battery chargers and cleaning plant drawing up to about 3.7 kVA. Because the outlet is keyed and colour coded, a 230 V lead cannot be forced into a 110 V or 415 V socket, which matters on sites where several voltages run side by side.
Compliance
The IP44 rating is defined in BS EN 60529 as protection against solid objects larger than 1 mm and against splashing water from any direction, which covers indoor workshops, plant rooms and sheltered external positions but not wash-down bays or fully exposed sites; specify an IP65 or IP67 socket for those. The outlet follows the IEC 60309 industrial pin-and-sleeve pattern, which fixes pin arrangement, colour and keying by voltage band so that plugs and sockets from different makers interconnect safely. Install and test to BS 7671.
