Buying guide
TP&SN (triple pole and switched neutral) isolators break the three phases and the neutral. They are used where the neutral has to be isolated as well, which is common on TT installations and on some generator arrangements.
On the Europa LB and LBF ranges the neutral contact makes before and breaks after the phases, so the neutral is not disconnected while the phases are live. Check the datasheet of other ranges for their contact sequence.
Questions
- What does TP&SN stand for?
- Triple pole and switched neutral: three switched phase poles plus a switched neutral.
- Is TP&SN the same as 4 pole?
- Both isolate the neutral. A 4 pole switch switches all four poles together; a TP&SN switch has a dedicated neutral contact, which on the Europa LB and LBF ranges makes first and breaks last.
- When do I need the neutral switched?
- Where the design or BS 7671 requires the neutral to be isolated, for example on many TT systems and where a generator supply has its own neutral.
