Buying guide
A four pole isolator switches the three phases and the neutral together, so the whole circuit is isolated at one point. At 100A it suits larger motors, sub-mains and plant isolation.
Check the utilisation category on the product page: AC-23 ratings cover switching motors, while AC-22 suits mixed resistive and inductive loads. Choose the enclosure for the location - insulated plastic for most indoor and outdoor uses, metal where impact resistance matters.
Questions
- What is the difference between a 4 pole and a TP&SN isolator?
- A 4 pole isolator switches the neutral like a phase. A TP&SN (triple pole and switched neutral) isolator has a separate neutral contact; on the Europa LB and LBF ranges it makes before and breaks after the phases.
- Can a 100A isolator switch a motor?
- Yes, if it carries an AC-23 rating at the motor's voltage that covers the motor's full-load current. The AC-23 figure is on each product page and datasheet.
- Can the isolator be locked off?
- Rotary isolators for machine isolation normally have a handle that can be padlocked in the off position. The product page and datasheet confirm it for each model.
