Buying guide
63A is a common rating for isolating three phase machinery, heat pumps, chillers and sub-distribution boards. Choose the poles to match the circuit: 3 pole for three phase loads without a neutral, TP&SN or 4 pole where the neutral must be isolated too.
Use the filters to narrow by poles, IP rating and enclosure material.
Questions
- What do IP65 and IP66 mean on an isolator?
- The first digit is protection against solids (6 = dust tight), the second against water: 5 resists water jets, 6 resists powerful water jets. Most outdoor isolators are IP65 or IP66.
- Should I choose AC-22 or AC-23?
- AC-23 is for switching motors and other highly inductive loads; AC-22 covers mixed resistive and inductive loads such as distribution circuits. For a motor isolator, choose an AC-23 rating that covers the motor current.
- Do I need a switched neutral?
- Where the neutral must be isolated with the phases - for example on many TT installations and some generator arrangements - choose TP&SN or 4 pole. Your design and BS 7671 set the requirement.
