The IS164N is the socket half of a 16A 415V IEC 60309 connection, moulded for trailing use and rated splash-proof IP44. Fitted to flexible cable it gives a properly earthed, correctly keyed outlet at the point of use, with none of the improvisation that makeshift adaptors invite.

Overcurrent protection is not part of the connector: the circuit feeding it must be protected at the board, with any RCD protection BS 7671 calls for provided upstream.
