Product details

Three-phase equipment needs the same fine protection as single-phase electronics, and this two-module DEHN Type 3 arrester provides it for loads up to 25A. Installed close to the load, it clamps the residual surge energy that gets past the Type 2 device at the distribution board.

Key features

  • Type 3 point-of-use protection for three-phase circuits rated up to 25A
  • Two DIN modules wide, so it fits the local panel rather than needing a separate enclosure
  • Coordinates with Type 1 and Type 2 arresters installed further upstream
  • Local status indication makes end of life visible on a routine inspection
  • Protects the control electronics inside drives and machine panels, not just the supply

Typical applications

This is the arrester for the machine panel rather than the main board: variable speed drives and soft starters, CNC and machine tool controls, packaging and conveying lines, HVAC and refrigeration plant, and three-phase pump and fan controllers. It is particularly worth fitting where a long sub-main runs across a site and picks up induced surges on the way to the plant it feeds.

Compliance

Type 3 devices are the fine-protection class defined in the BS EN 61643-11 series and must be energy-coordinated with the Type 2 protection upstream. BS 7671 requires the risk from transient overvoltages to be assessed and protection provided where the consequences justify it.
