Buying guide
The forms of separation in BS EN 61439-2 describe how far the inside of a switchboard is divided into compartments. Form 3b Type 2 goes one step beyond Form 3a: the outgoing cable terminals are separated from the busbars by rigid barriers, so a circuit can be terminated or isolated with less of the live board exposed.
Every Terasaki Resilience Standard board is Form 3b Type 2 as supplied. On Resilience Plus, the Form 3b Type 2 boards are the hybrid versions that accept thermal-magnetic or electronic outgoing MCCBs, in 400 A and 800 A, with 6, 12 or 18 ways.
Questions
- What does Form 3b Type 2 mean?
- Form 3 separates the busbars from the functional units and the units from each other. Form 3b also separates the terminals for the outgoing cables from the busbars; Type 2 does that with rigid metallic or non-metallic barriers rather than insulated coverings.
- When is Form 3b specified?
- Where a consultant or the client wants an outgoing terminal to be worked on with the board live, with the busbars shielded. Many specifications for commercial buildings call for Form 3b Type 2 or better on sub-main boards.
- Which Resilience boards are Form 3a?
- The Resilience Plus boards without the Form 3b suffix: the thermal-magnetic and hybrid 400 A and 800 A boards and the twin 400 AF board.
