Typical applications
Work at this rating typically means 110V hand tools, site lighting, small breakers and other reduced low voltage equipment fed from a site transformer. IP44 suits sheltered positions - workshops, plant rooms, covered site areas - where splashing rather than standing water is the risk. Remember that a splitter multiplies outlets, not capacity: everything drawn across the 2 outlets comes through one 16A supply and the device protecting it, so add up the connected loads first.

The IEC 60309 pattern (BS EN 60309-2 in the UK) fixes the pin positions and the yellow coding for the 100-130V band, and that keying is what stops a 16A 110V connector being mated with another rating or voltage range. IP44 means protection against solid objects larger than 1mm and against water splashed from any direction. Overcurrent protection is not part of the connector: the circuit feeding it must be protected at the board, with any RCD protection BS 7671 calls for provided upstream.
